Essaouira (Day 3)

Essaouira is a Unesco World Heritage sight for being an old western fortified town on the northerna atlantic coast of Africa. You really can't complain of the inland view from the roof of the Riad Mimouna at breakfast.

Dad had taken his time having breakfast on purpose (as there was a strong offshore breeze in the morning and the day was sunny, he figured it would be a more kindly breeze in the afternoon for his first windsurfing lesson).

Having gone down to the bay and failed to get a lesson -- because he was informed that the wind would increase from 25 to 45 knots as the sun rose towards the afternoon!! - dad finally got pictures in the late afternoon before dinner. Here the fish gutters work under the eye of boss and an impatient sky of seagulls.

Dad, envious, takes a picture of a distant windsurfer skipping across the bay at Essaouira. In the distance is a castle falling into the sea which inspired another Seattle-ite to sing many moons ago about failure: "And so castles made of sand ... fall in the sea ... eventually."

You might recall these lyrics?

In the middle ground, a traditionally dressed Moroccan woman meditates on castle and windsurfer. (you might want to click on this image to contemplate appropriately)
